How to make porridge

There are few things as singularly comforting as whipping up a big, warming bowl of porridge. You can make porridge slowly on a hob or a stove, or you can create some truly delicious, creamy porridge in the microwave.

How to make porridge

Incredibly versatile, porridge is filling, nourishing, and perfect for keeping you full until lunch. Porridge is full of fibre and packed with protein, making it the perfect breakfast for whatever the morning throws at you.

All of MOMA’s loose porridge oats are gluten-free and vegan, making them great for a wide range of dietary restrictions.

Using MOMA’s Jumbo wholegrain oats, here is how to make porridge two ways.

Porridge Recipe

Ingredients:
- MOMA Jumbo Wholegrain oats - Our oats are whole, rolled oats, this means when you cook with them they stay creamy and rich without disintegrating
- Water (or milk or oat milk)
- Sweeteners: Honey, maple syrup, jams or golden syrup work very well.

Porridge (on the stove):

  • Add 40g of oats and 190ml of milk, oat milk (our MOMA original works very well for this) or water into a small saucepan and stir.
  • Bring to the boil on a low heat and gently simmer for 5 minutes (or until you reach your desired consistency).
  • Pour into a bowl, add your toppings of choice (We like to add nuts and seasonal fruits)
  • Enjoy!

Porridge (in the microwave)

  • Add 40g of oats and 190ml of milk, oat milk (our MOMA original works very well for this) or water into a bowl.
  • Pop into the microwave and cook on high for 2-3 minutes, stopping and stirring it regularly.
  • Leave to stand for a few minutes and tuck in.

Tips for delicious porridge:

  • To make your porridge extra creamy add a splash of cold milk to the top.
  • For a tropical twist, cook your porridge as above in coconut milk, and top with fresh mango and toasted coconut flakes.
  • Who said you can’t have chocolate for breakfast? To make chocolate porridge add a spoonful of cocoa and stir well.
