Breakfast Trends

October 14, 2014

Now don’t get us wrong we love our oats. I mean seriously we can’t get enough of them. But occasionally, just occasionally we like to put down the porridge pot, broaden our horizons and see what else is out there. Here are some of the latest breakfast trends we’ve come across recently… Some we’re not quite so sure about!

Breakfast in bread

No clean plates? No problem. Take inspiration from breakfast hotspot the Barge House in Haggerston where your breakfast is served in a loaf of bread.…that’s right! Offering both traditional and veggie fry-ups this has fast become one of the most popular dishes on the menu at this quirky establishment. The idea came about when the cafés French chef refused to cook a traditional British brunch.

Indian Breakfast

Indian for breakfast? No we’re not talking about heating up the left overs of last night’s curry. We’re talking about Dishoom, where the brunch menu strays away from usual eggs and avocado offering. Think Bombay Omelette infused with Green Chilis and Coriander or Egg Naan Rolls infused with Saffron. If you’re not quite feeling the spice pre-midday, or, like us, you just can’t beat a bowl of oatie goodness in the morning. Then fear not, they have porridge sweetened with Bananas and Medjool dates on the menu, and what’s more, its unlimited….. With the original Dishoom popping up in Shoreditch there are now locations in both Covent Garden and Kings Cross.

Bullet proof coffee

Bored of your morning flat white? Why not try something a little more unconventional by adding a spoonful of butter to your morning brew. Believe it or not this fatty little tipple is actually one of the latest health fads to sweep the nation. Created by an American health guru, this variation of coffee tends to made by devotees at home, although some cafes are now getting in on the action. This combination of coffee, butter and oil is supposed to provide you with more alertness, prolonged energy and a fuller feeling in the morning. Devotees believe the caffeine combines with the fats to slowly release these effects over a long period of time. I’m not sure about you but I think I’ll stick with my flat white in the morning!

Symmetry breakfast

Okay, so not so much a breakfast trend, but more a way of capturing those trends. Regardless of what side of the ‘foodstagram’ argument you sit on, there is no denying that ‘Symmetry Breakfasts’ daily posts are nothing short of amazing. This morning ritual for food blogger Michael Zee came about by accident one morning when he made breakfast for him and his partner and noticed he laid them on the table perfectly symmetrical. He took a photo, posted it online and now more than 2 years on and over 500 posts later his Instagram account @symmetrybreakfast has almost 250k followers! Take a look at some of our faves below:
